At the Law Office of Alison Sayar, in Los Altos, California, we provide friendly, personable and compassionate representation for parents of special needs children in San Jose, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Redwood City, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Gilroy and surrounding communities. For more than 20 years, Mrs. Sayar has focused primarily in the area of special education law.

Mrs. Sayar began her legal career at the prestigious law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati in Palo Alto, California.  She worked with emerging growth companies, preparing and negotiating complex legal transactions.  Her interest was sparked when a friend was having a difficult time obtaining proper placement and services for her autistic child within her school district.  After learning about the issues parents of special needs children face on a daily basis, she left corporate law and began her own practice working with children with special education needs.

During her career, Mrs. Sayar has worked to solve the very problems parents with special needs children are confronted with each day. She has had particular experience assisting special needs children with cognitive delays, autism, learning disabilities, physical and emotional needs, dyslexia and ADD/ADHD.  She works with parents to get needed programs and services for their cognitively and physically disabled children through their schools, county governments and local Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPA).

The Law Office of Alison Sayar can assist you by:
  • Discussing your child's needs and gathering important information;
  • Connecting you with appropriate medical resources to obtain an accurate diagnosis for your child's condition;
  • Identifying appropriate services and applying for those services;
  • Evaluating how your child will be best served, (whether in public or private school, or in a residential or county program);
  • Consulting with education experts to match the needs of the child with educational resources and other accommodations;
  • Helping you and your child to meet eligibility requirements for special programs offered through his or her school districts;
  • Assisting you in developing an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for your child and obtaining school district consent for that plan;
  • Mediating on your behalf and/or representing you at Due Process/Fair Hearing.

It is often difficult for parents and children to meet eligibility requirements for certain programs. We help parents navigate this complex bureaucracy. When possible, we save client's money, time and effort, by seeking negotiated or mediated solutions with school districts. When necessary, however, we advocate forcefully for you through litigation.
